Son of John Dale and Mary Ann Georgina Dale nee Kavanagh of Park Road, Maribyrnong, Victoria. Brother of John Walter Dale who was killed in action on 24 September 1917 while serving with the 58th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres

Commeced return to Australia on 8 April 1919 aboard HT Trasos Montes disembarking at Melbourne on 22 May 1919
