Biography contributed by Peter Cates

Joseph Eric Everleigh Tregilgas, known as Eric, was the eldest of three sons. He had already commenced a career as a minister when he enlisted for overseas service aged 22. On 22 June 2017, a few weeks before leaving for England, he married 28yr old Muriel Lillian Marston. Muriel then returned to her family home in Mintaro until Eric's war Service ended.

After the war, they lived initially in Westbourne Park and Eric resumed his career with the Methodist Church. The couple had four children, all born between 1920 and 1927. After holding a number of positions in country SA and suburban Adelaide, Eric retired due to ill health in 1950. He published a book about the Methodist Church in Gawler, as well as writing articles for the Christian Commonwealth. In later years he was president of the Mental Hospitals' Association and tutored at Wesley Theological College.

Excerpt from the book: "A Picture of Fortitude" with approval by The Willunga Recreational Park.
