Private Iris Eva Shout (Service No:V3888130) enlisted in the Australian Womens' Army Service (AWAS) on 18 August 1942. Private Shout was attached to LHQ Car Coy AWAS when she was Discharged on 23 August 1944.
Born in 1916 in Dandenong Victoria, Iris was the second of five children of Arthur James Clarence Shout (b1889 in Wellington, New Zealand) and Margaret Eva Crook (b1896 in Dandenong, Victoria). Arthur (a Farmer) and Margaret married in 1914 in Melbourne, Victoria. Following his Discharge from the AIF in 1918 (Lance Corporal; Service No:2919) Arthur and Margaret settled at Somerville in Frankston where they raised their family and Arthur was a Farmer, Labourer and Manager.
Iris worked as Saleswoman and Sub Estate Agent and in 1942 married Charles (Scotty) William Ward (b1918 in London, England) - Scotty was a Service Policeman in the RAAF. Iris and Scotty settled in Dandenong, Victoria where Scotty was a Painter and Decorator before moving to Mornington. Scotty died in 1972 and Iris in 2009.
