Son of John Veale and Elizabeth Sarah Veale nee Suters of Burke Road, Auburn, Victoria. Brother of Henry George Veale who returned to Australia on 17 February 1919 having served with the Australian Corps Working Party.

During 1915c Thomas married Bruce Myrtle Reid in Victoria

Commenced return to Australia on 7 February 1919 aboard HT Lancashire disembarking on 31 March 1919
