Died on this date – 4th October…… Arthur Edgar Jackson was born on 12th February, 1895 at Wellington, New Zealand.

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 17th April, 1918 as a 23 year old, single, Salesman from Manly, NSW.

Private Arthur Edgar Jackson, Service number 58806, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Borda (A30) on 17th July, 1918 with the 10th (New South Wales) General Service Reinforcements. He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal from 17th July, 1918, on embarkation & then Voyage Only Corporal from 24th August, 1918. Voyage Only Corporal Jackson was admitted to Ship’s Hospital on 28th August, 1918 with Diarrhoea & discharged the same day. He was re-admitted to Ship’s Hospital on 22nd September, 1918 with Acute Appendicitis. Voyage Only Corporal Jackson disembarked to Hospital in UK from HMAT A 30 on 27th September, 1918.

On 27th September, 1918 he was admitted to Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich, England with Appendicitis – seriously ill.

Private Arthur Edgar Jackson died at 00.30 hrs on 4th October, 1918 at Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich, England from Appendicitis.

He was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, England where around 360 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
