Aubrey Pedersen was the son of Christian and Carolina Amelia Pedersen, of Paddington, Queensland, and raised in Rockhampton. His brother 142 Pte. Hans Henry Pedersen 26th Battalion AIF was wounded in action the same day and evacuated to England. Hans was eventually captured by the Germans at Lagnicourt in 1917 and died of pneumonia as a prisoner of war on the 31 October 1918, aged 29. Their father was born in Denmark and had to sign documents stating their true surname was Pedersen.
