Private William Lawrence Clifford (Service No:W34448) served with the ACMF from 29 January 1941 (Sapper; 22 Field Coy RAE) to 24 June 1946. Private Clifford was attached to Western Command General Details Depot (GDD) at Discharge.

Bill was born in 1907 in Boulder WA, fourth of nine children of Richard (Dick) Eddy Clifford (b1876 in Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria) and Alma Maud Read (b1876 in Cornwall, England) - Alma immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1878, arriving on board the Hawkesbury. Dick (a Miner and Hon Secretary of the Eaglehawk Wesleyan Cricket Club) married in 1900 in Eaglehawk, Victoria and the next year had settled in Boulder, Western Australia where they raised their family. Dick was a Miner and Secretary to the Eastern Goldfields Dictrict Council of the Australian Labour Federation. In 1919 he died in the Influenza epidemic.

Bill started work as a Labourer in Fremantle, and in 1932 in Perth WA married Clarice (Clarie) Elizabeth Oates (b1910 in Boulder, WA).  Bill and Clarrie settled in Perth, where Bill worked as a Labourer, Sewerage Maintenance Man and Water Supply Worker. In 1947 Bill was instrumental in recuing a two old boy who had fallen down a bore shaft. Bill died in 1967 and Clarie in 1974.
