Corporal William John Majury (Service No:N104404) served in the ACMF as a Private from 3 April 1941 to 28 March 1947 (promoted to Corporal on 7 May 1946). Enlisting as a Private with 16th Garrison Battalion, Corporal Majury was attached to Hay PW Camp at Discharge on 28 March 1947.
Born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1887 to Henry and Annie Majury, Bill worked as a Mineral Water Deliverer in Ireland before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada with his family in 1901. Bill served with the 158th Candians (Regimental No:645251) in WWI. By 1926 he was working as a Hawker in Adelaide, South Australia, when he married his first wife Elisabeth Patten (b1881 in Millicent, South Australia). Following Elisabeth's death in 1932, Bill remarried in 1934 to Jessie Ellen Kempster (b1910 in Bute, South Australia). Bill and Jessie moved to New South Wales following their marriage, and lived in Wentworth and Euston, where Bill was a Boilermaker and Cement Finisher. The family settled in Hay NSW, where they were living in Council Paddock in 1941 when Bill enlisted in the ACMF. Following his Discharge in 1947, he and Jessie settled in Hay, where Bill died in 1963 and Jessie in 1966.
