Sergeant Kenneth Albert Higginbotham (Service No:V146468) enlisted in the ACMF on 16 February 1940 as a Private attached to District Accounts Office Victoria. Promoted to Sergeant on 7 February 1943, he was attached to Australian Army Pay Corps (AAPC) at Discharge on 6 October 1945.
Ken was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1917, youngest of two children of David Arthur Higginbotham (b1882 in Collingwood, Melbourne, Victoria) and his second wife Ellen Helen Daniels (b 1888 in Collingwood, Melbourne, Victoria). Arthur joined Victorian Railways as a Lad Messenger in 1900, and was a Railway Clerk in 1912 when he and Ellen married in Melbourne - David was a Widower with two young children, and Ellen worked as a Machinist. David and Ellen settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and David worked for Victorian Government Railways - as a Clerk and then Railways Superintendent.
Ken worked in Melbourne as a Salesman, and was a Department Manager in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. In Melbourne in 1944 he married Margery Ellen Rackham (b1923 in Sunshine, Victoria) - Margery worked as a Clerk in Melbourne before enlisting in the AWAS (Corporal; Service No:Vf345435) - both were posted at District Accounts Office Victoria. The 1946 Electoral Roll gives Ken's occupation as 'Soldier', and by 1949 he was a Salesman in Melbourne. Ken and Margery settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and, from the 1950's Ken was a Real Estate Agent and Company Director until his death in 1976. Margery died in 2003.
