Sergeant Crayston Webster Young (Service No:TX12709) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Sergeant; Service No:T27702) and was attached to 22 Motor Regiment (Light Horse) when he Discharged on 30 October 1941. He enlisted in the AIF on 31 December 1942 and on 12 August 1943 embarked from Townsville for Port Moresby on board the Katoomba. Sergeant Young served with 2/12 Infantry Battalion, 2/4th Field Regiment, 127 Brigade Workshops and 2/51 Australian Light Aid Detachment. On 8 March 1944 Sergeant Young embarked at Port Moresby for the return to Townsville on board the Ormiston, and was attached to General Details Depot (GDD) QLD Line of Communication (LoC) Area when he was Discharged on 5 January 1945.

Born in 1913 in Johannesburg South Africa, Crayston was the eldest of two children of Crayston Webster Young Snr (b1877 in Breconshire, Wales) and second wife Ivy Maud Young (b1890 in Cape Colony, South Africa). Crayston Snr was raised in Scotland and served in the Boer War. He and Ivy married in 1912 in Johannesburg, South Africa and immigrated to Tasmania where they settled in Nietta and Crayston Snr was a Storekeeper, Post Master and Mail Contractor.

Crayston Jnr worked as a Mail Contractor in Nietta and in 1936 at Sprent, Tasmania he married Constance Elizabeth Frost (b1911 in Ulverstone, Tasmania). Crayston and Constance settled in Nietta where Crayston worked as a Mail Contractor and Storekeeper before his enlistment in WWII. Following his service, Crayston and Constance remained in Nietta where Crayston was a Bus Proprietor and Coach Driver. Crayston died in 1988.
