George was the youngest of three children of William Harold Francis Baker (b1886 in Hobart, Tasmania) and Ada Annie McGowan (b1886 in Burnie, Tasmania). William - a Textile Worker - and Ada married in 1912 in Sydney, NSW where they settled and raised their family. Following Ada's death in 1922, William remarried and worked in Sydney, NSW as a Textile Worker.

George was a Textile Worker in Sydney, NSW when he enlisted in October 1939. He was a Private (Service No:NX3451) attached to Land Force Headquarters (LHQ) Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) School when he was Discharged in September 1945.

In 1942 George married Norma Irene Boyle (b1921 in Cobar, NSW). Following his Discharge, George and Norma settled in Sydney where George worked as a Printer, Carton Gluer and Storeman. George died in 1971 and Norma in 2007.
