Lieutenant Desmond Myers (Service No:NX3722) enlisted in the Australian Army on 23 October 1939 and was a Signaller attached to Australian Corps Signals. He was a Corporal attached to Signals 1 Corps in the Middle East (1 October 1940 - 18 March 1942) and in New Guinea (12 August 1942 - 20 July 1943). He was promoted to Warrant Officer on 12 January 1944 and to Lieutenant on 1 October 1944. Lieutenant Myers served in North East Indies (4 May 1945 - 25 September 1945) with General Reinforcements Signals and was attached to Reinforcements 1 Base Sub Area D when he was Discharged on 5 October 1945.

Born in 1915 in Croydon NSW, Desmond was the only son and second of three children of Walter Myers (b1887 in Yorkshire, England) and Gertrude Flowers (b1887 in Yorkshire, England). Walter (a Plasterer) and Gertrude married in 1908 in Yorkshire and immigrated with their first daughter in 1913, arriving in Sydney NSW on board the Ballarat - Walter listed his occupation as Farmer. Walter and Gertude settled in Kogarah in Sydney NSW where they raised their family and Walter worked as a Plasterer.

Desmond was working as a Plasterer in Kogarah, Sydney NSW when he enlisted in the Army in 1939 - he stated his occupation as Motor Cyclist in his Attestation Papers. In 1945 in Melbourne, Desmond married Joan Adelaide Smith (b1916 in Branxholm, Tasmania) and following Desmond's Discharge the couple settled in Bankstown, Sydney NSW where Desmond worked as a Plasterer and then a Hotel Manager in Paddington. Desmond and Joan moved to the Darling Downs in QLD in the early 1960s, where Desmond was a Hotel Manager. Desmond died in 1974 and Joan 2002.
