Private Charles Osborne Streader (Service No:VX26608) enlisted in the AIF on 20 June 1940 and served with 2/7 Training Battalion and Base Coy Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) in Palestine (15 September 1940 - 3 March 1943). Private Streader was attached to Base Coy AAMC at Discharge on 12 August 1943. Private Steader served with the Cadets and in WWI as a Private with 6th Battalion and 5th Depot Battalion (20 June 1914 to 25 August 1914 and 13 July 1915 to 18 October 1915). When enlisting in both WWI and WWII, Charles gave incorrect birthdates - in WWI he gave his DoB as 5 January 1893 and in WWII he gave his DoB as 5 January 1901.

Charles was born in Bendigo, Victoria in 1895 (Vic BDM Registration No:20263), youngest of four children (and only son) of Charles Richard Streader (b1867 in Tarnagulla, Victoria) and Annie Margaret Hansen (b1871 at Kangaroo Flat via Bendigo, Victoria). Charles Snr started work as a Tailor's apprentice in Sandhurst and was an Engine Driver in 1889 when he and Annie married. The couple settled in Bendigo, where they raised their family and Charles worked as an Engine Driver until his death in 1910. Annie remarried.

Charles was working in Melbourne as a Tramway Grip Repairer when he enlisted in the AIF, and in 1915 in Melbourne married his first wife Claudine (Annie) Ann Doloffsky (b1892 in Melbourne, Victoria). Charles and Annie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Charles was a Tramways Employee (Grip Repairer). Following Annie's death in 1933, Charles remarried in 1937 - to Olga Butterfield (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Olga was working in Melbourne as a Receptionist. Charles and Olga settled in Melbourne, where Charles worked as a Mechanic. Olga died in 1977 and Charles in 1988.
