Captain Lawrence Edward Deane (Service Nos:N14163/NX166183) served in the Militia in 1939 before enlisting in the ACMF on 5 April 1940, and was a Captain attached to 2 Australian Corps of Signals when he enlisted in the AIF on 15 June 1944. Seconded to 1st Australian Army School of Signals as an Instructor on 15 June 1944, Captain Deane's Appointment was Terminated on 2 December 1944.

Lawrie was born in Mosman, Sydney, New South Wales in 1909 to Lawrence Phillip Deane (b1877 in Goulburn, New South Wales) and Rosalind Beatrice Shier (b1882 in Melbourne, Victoria). Lawrence (an Accountant) and Beatrice married in 1908 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family and Lawrence was an Accountant.

Lawrie started work as a Clerk with Perpetual Trustees Coy, and in 1933 in Sydney married his first wife Dorothy Aileen Wragge (b1906 in Leichardt, New South Wales) - Dorothy was a Libranrian's Assistant in Sydney. Lawrie and Dorothy settled in Sydney, where Lawrie was working for Perpetual Trustees Coy when he enlisted in the Army. He and Dorothy divorced in 1946, and later that year Lawrie remarried to Nancy Ruth Molesworth (b1920 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Nancy was working in Sydney as a Public Servant (Stenographer with the Department of the Army) and had served with the AWAS in WWII (Lieutenant; Service No:390384). Lawrie and Nancy settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Lawrie was a Clerk/Officer with Perpetual Trustees until retirement. Lawrie died in 1998 and Nancy in 2002.
