Corporal Leonard Mibus (Service No:VX89312) initially served in the ACMF (Trooper; Service No:V22352) from 15 July 1939 to 30 June 1942 and enlisted in the AIF on 1 July 1942. Corporal Mibus served in Darwin with the North Australia Observer Unit (NAOU) - a light horse mounted unit tasked with providing early warning of Japanese activity in the north - from 15 September 1942 to 8 October 1943. Corporal Mibus was attached to 16th Infantry Training Battalion in June 1945 and was attached to NAOU at Discharge on 22 November 1945.

Born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1915, Len was eldest of eight children of Edmund Oswald Mibus (b1886 in Hamilton, Victoria) and Sophie Mirtschin (b1885 in Mt Rouse, Victoria). Edmund was a Farmer in Hamilton when he and Sophie married in 1913 - they settled in Hamilton where they raised their family and Edmund was a Farmer.

Len worked as a Farm Hand in Portland and Hamilton before enlisting in the Army. In 1945 he was in Sydney, NSW when he married Catherine Anne Bahlinger (b1919 in Leeton, NSW) - Catherine worked in Sydney as a Sales Assistant with Dymocks before enlisting in the Army (AWAS; Lance Corporal; Service No:NF462700). Following Discharge, Len and Catherine settled in Portland, Victoria where they raised their family and Len worked as a Contractor - in 1951 he stood for election as a Town Councillor. Catherine died in 1987 and Len in 2004.
