Private Leonard Fitzroy Wilkinson (Service Nos:V310141/VX103072) initially served in the ACMF (Gunner) from 5 November 1941 to 6 July 1942, and was 'in the field' in Tamworth NSW attached to 16 Australian Field Regiment when he enlisted in the AIF on 7 July 1942. Private Wilkinson served in Borneo with 2nd/5th Field Coy (8 June 1945 to 16 January 1946) and was attached to HQ RAE 7 Division at Discharge on 26 March 1946.

Named after his uncle (Private Leonard Fitzroy Wilkinson; Service No:3954) who was KiA in France in WWI, Leonard was born in Korumburra, Victoria in 1917, fifth of nine children of Henry (Jim) James Wilkinson (b1886 in Mirboo, Victoria) and Elsie Mary Anne Mitchell (b1890 in Macorna, Victoria). Jim (a Labourer) and Elsie married in 1911 in Korumburra, where they raised their family and Jim was a Labourer. In the 1930s the family moved to Warragul, where Jim worked as a Farmer and Labourer.

Leonard worked in Warragul as a Farm Hand, and was was a Factory Hand in Melbourne in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1946 in Melbourne, he married Marguarite Mira Nelly Smith (b1928 in Melbourne, Victoria). Leonard and Marguarite settled in Warragul, where they raised their family and Leonard was a Labourer, before moving to Healesville in the Yarra Ranges in the early 1960s. Leonard worked as a Labourer in Healesville until retirement. He died in 1997 and Marguarite in 2014.
