Following the end of WWII John Cosgrove stayed in the army and before discharging in November 1975 served in all ranks (including RSM) up to Captain

Promoted to Lieutenant and posted to 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers 1965-1968.
Retired from the Army in 1976 at the rank of Captain.
