Lieutenant John James Stanton Stanborough (Service Nos:N278465/NX121885) served in the Militia with 55th Battalion before enlisting in the ACMF on 29 May 1942. Lieutenant Stanborough was attached to NSW Line of Communictaion on 14 December 1942 when he transferred to the AIF. Lieutenant Stanborough served in New Guinea in 1943 with LHQ and 105 and 141 Australian General Transport Coys, and was attached to Motor Transport Impressment at Discharge on 19 October 1944.

John was born at St Leonard's Creek in Sydney, New South Wales in 1903, second of three children of David Joseph Stanborough (b1881 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Ethelind Beatrice Jarrett (b1881 in Sydney, New South Wales). David and Ethelind married in 1901 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family - David was Baker/Carter and Ethelind was a Tailoress.

John was Motor Mechanic in Sydney in 1922, and in 1923 in Burrowa married Doris Lilian Gough (b1903 in Cardiff, Wales) - Doris immigrated in 1910, arriving in Sydney with her parents and siblings on board the Orvieto. Following their Divorce in 1928, John remarried in Sydney in 1935 to Edith (Didi) Mary De Josselin (nee Wood; b1901 in Sydney, New South Wales) - John was working as a Motor Mechanic and Didi as a Clerk. John and Did settled in Sydney, where  John was a Motor Mechanic and Garage Proprietor. Didi died in 1973 and John in 1983.
