William Haydn Danks became Registered Player Number 0428 at VFA club Port Melbourne in 1910 and went on to play in 45 senior games. He was an engine driver with Victorian Railways and later enlisted with the AIF Railway Unit at the age of  30 years & 3 months on 16 December 1916. He survived the war and was discharged on 19 December 1919.
