KOKKINN, Arnliot Gelina Bjorn
Arnliot, better known as Arnold, was born in Brisbane, Queensland on 30th August, 1897, of Norwegian heritage. His father and next of kin, Charles, gave his address as Hope Cottage, Ernest Street, South Brisbane.
Arnliot gave his profession as labourer at the time of his enlistment in Brisbane on 20th December, 1915. He left Australia on the ship RM Mooltan on 12th April, 1916, as part of 41st Battalian AIF arriving in England for further training. On the 10th of July, 1916 Arnliot joined 48 Battalian AIF in France, where he sustained a gun shot wound to the neck necessitating hospitalisation in France on 8th August, 1916.
On the 3rd November, 1916, he was back in the action in a Machine Gun
Private Kokkinn was posted to the 4 Machine Gun Group on 1st of April, 1918.
He returned to Australia on 2nd September, 1919, and was discharged on 16th November, 1919.
On the 26th of November, only ten days later, Arnliot married Rose Ann Mills in Brisbane, where they proceeded to have two children, both boys :
Bernard. (1922 - 1988)
Arnold James (1924 - 1926)
Arnliot applied for and was granted 12.5 hectares (Portion 116) at the Coominya Soldier Settlement. Soldier Settlements were notoriously harsh on families for numerous reasons including climate, lack of equipment, and the sheer amount of work required, and the Kokkinn's surrendered their property on 17th May, 1923.
Arnliot successfully applied for 127 hectares of the Ridgeland Soldier Settlement near Rockhampton but in 1926 the family departed for Lismore in northern New South Wales.
Rose Ann died at Murwillumbah, NSW, on 1st July, 1958. Arnliot died at South Grafton on 23rd September, 1973 and is buried at Clarence Lawn Cemetery.
