Private Henry Louis Sandilands (Service No:V383367) served in the ACMF from 6 January 1942 to 20 September 1945 with 8 Battalion (Vic) VDC).

Henry was born in Wagin, WA in 1912, eldest of eight children of John (Jack) Graham Sandilands (b1881 at Tallygaroopna via Shepparton, Victoria) and Louisa Amelia Schwerkolt (b1890 in Mitcham, Melbourne, Victoria). Jack worked as a Farm Hand for his father before serving in the Boer War (Private; Service No:152) with 2nd Victorian Mounted Rifles. Jack and Louisa married in Melbourne in 1910, and by 1912 had moved to Western Australia where they lived in Wagin, Fremantle and Perth and Jack worked as a Labourer, Storekeeper and Machinery Agent, and Fitter. Following his Service in WWI (Gunner; Service No:1227), Jack and Amelia lived in Melbourne, where Jack worked as a Shopkeeper and Tramways Employee, before settling at Barwidgee via Myrtleford where Jack was a Dairy Farmer through the 1920s. By 1929 the family had left the farm and moved to Shepparton and later Melbourne, where Jack was a Labourer. Jack also served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:5524).

Henry was working as a Baker and Pastry Cook in Warrnambool in 1938 when he married May Lawrence Weiss (b1918 in Colac, Victoria). Henry and May settled in Warrnambool where they raised their family and Henry worked as a Baker and Pastry Cook. Henry died in 1993 and May in 2015.
