Lance Corporal Albert Edward McEwen (Service No:V364823) served in the ACMF from 17 March 1942 to 19 September 1945 with 13 Battalion VDC. He had previously served as a Private with the Volunteer Corps for ten years. Son Douglas also served in WWII.
Born in 1890 in Palmerston New Zealand, Albert was the son of Sarah Elizabeth Martha McEwen (b1872 in Wellington, New Zealand). Sarah married Aaron Allan (b1874 in New Plymouth, New Zealand) in 1895 - Aaran (a Labourer) served with the NZ Army in WWI and moved to Victoria in the early 1920s.
Albert was a Blacksmith in Sale, Victoria in 1914 when he married Bertha Chaplin Elston (b1895 in Sale, Victoria). Albert and Bertha settled in Sale where Albert was a Blacksmith and by the late 1930s, a Butcher. Albert served with the Volunteer Corps and part time with the ACMF during WWII. Albert died in 1953 and Bertha in 1966.
