John was the fourth of six children of Edward Foye (b1879 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Ann Brooks McKenzie (b1880 in Clackmannanshire, Scotland). Edward - a Coal Miner - and Ann - a Woollen Mill Worker - married in 1904 in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. In July 1912 the family arrived in Sydney, NSW on board the Rangatira, and settled in Mt Kembla NSW where Edward was a Miner.

John started working as a Wheeler (Wheelwright) and was a Miner in Mt Kembla in 1935 when he married Elizabeth Richards (b1912 in Warwickshire, England). Elizabeth - a Woollen Mill Worker - arrived in Sydney NSW with her parents and one sister on board the Beltana in 1927. 

John and Elizabeth settled in Mt Kembla where John was a Miner. In May 1942 John enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:N339738). He was a Private attached to 12 Battalion VDC when he was Discharged in June 1943.

John and Elizabeth remained in Mt Kembla, where John was a Miner. John died in 1977 and Elizabeth died in 2009.
