Christopher Charles Withy was born in Glanville South Australia, 1899. He was the son of Charles Henry and Heckle Magdalene Withy, of 232, North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia. He is the younger brother of Walter William Withy (3305) and worked as a labourer from the age of 17.
At the time of enlistment, he stood at 5’3, which was quite short amongst the average male at the time. He weighed 119lbs/53.9kgs. He was described to have a fare complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, and his religious domination was Anglican.
On the 2 Oct 1916, Christopher Enlisted for AIF WW1, as a Private (SN 4612), in the 32nd Infantry Battalion. He embarked with the 12th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 16 December 1916 aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) for Devonport, England. After training in England, he proceeded to France and joined his battalion. Christopher was wounded in action near Amiens on 18 June 1918 and was able to re-join his unit 9 days later. Withy was killed in action near Amines on the 1st of August 1918 at the age of 19. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial in France.
