Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 March 1916.

Admitted to dental hospital, 31 January 1917; rejoined unit, 3 February 1917. Detached to 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, 12-16 February 1917.

Transferred to Australian Flying Corps, 9 August 1917; taken on strength, 8th Training Squadron, 26 January 1918. Admitted to hospital (influenza), 11 February 1919; discharged to 1st Wing Headquarters, 19 February 1919. Married Janet MILBURN, Carlisle Registry Office, Cumberland, 20 February 1920.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Zealandic', 3 July 1919. Disembarked in Australia, 23 August 1919; discharged, 24 October 1919.
