Isaac Samuel Little was born on 10 Aug 1872 at Westwood near Rockhampton, Queensland, a son to Robert Little and Jane Little (nee Wiggins).

He served in both the South Afican (Boer) War and WW1. In his first service he enlisted as Samuel Little (N.O.K. mother Mrs. R Little, Westwood, Qld) as a Private S.N. 108 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. In his second service he enlisted under his full name (N.O.K. mother Mrs. Jane Little, Westwood, Qld) as a Private S.N. 2148 in the 4th Pioneer Battalion AIF, WW1. On his WW1 Attestation Paper he noted his previous service in the Boer War.

He lived his life in the Westwood and Mount Morgan areas, near Rockhampton, where undertook the occupation of grazier.
