Private Brian Francis Bedford Russell (Service No:V363778) enlisted in the ACMF on 2 April 1942 and was attached to 3 Battalion VDC when Discharged on 23 September 1943. Brother Leslie (Private: Service No:363780) also served in the ACMF.
Born in 1912 in Melbourne Victoria, Brian was the second of four children of Leslie Frederick Russell (b1881 in Bendigo, Victoria) and Winifred Margaret Nance (b1886 in Yorkshire, England). Leslie Snr (a Barrister) and Winifred (a Teacher) married in 1910 in Melbourne, Victoria. Winifred had emigrated with her parents and siblings in 1889, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Orient. Leslie Snr and Winifred lived in Kingslake, Victoria before settling in Melbourne - Leslie was a Barrister and Solicitor.
In the early 1930s Brian worked as an Imrover (Metallurgist) and by 1942 was a Metallurgical Engineer in Melbourne, Victoria. In 1943 Brian married Beryl Allison Mumme (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria). Brian and Beryl settled in Melbourne where Brian was a Metallurgist. Brian died in 1967 and Beryl in 1984.
