His brother, Private James Harper, Service Number S/43095, aged 22, fell whilst serving with British forces [Died 11/04/1917

They were sons of John and Helen Harper, of Woodcote, Leochel Cushnie, Alford, Aberdeen.
The brothers are remembered on the Alford war memorial [Gordon District - UKNIWM Ref No. 8550 ]
The Alford war memorial is a grey granite cross which stands on a tapering pedestal which in turn rests on a base of two low steps. The commemoration is in black lead lettering on the face of the cross shaft, with the names of the dead listed on the faces of the pedestal.
Alford Scottish Gaelic: Athfort) is a large village in Aberdeenshire, north-east Scotland, lying just south of the River Don. It lies within the Howe of Alford (also called the Vale of Alford) which occupies the middle reaches of the River Don.
The Alford War Memorial is positioned near the entrance of the cemetery at the top of Parkhill Road
Some sources say that the monument stands within the kirkyard just outside the village of Alford on A980.
