Son of William Edward Draper Oldroyd and Bertha Johanna  Oldroyd of Burns Crescent, Abbotsford, NSW.

Brother of Joseph Ernest Richard Oldroyd who returned to Australia on 1 July 1919 having served with the 5th Divisional Ammuniton Column and William Edward Oldroyd who returned to Australia on 13 October 1918 having served with the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 May 1916 aboard HS Themistocles disembarking on 19 June 1916

During 1925c Roy married Elsie Katherine Edmiston in Drummoyne, NSW
