Leading Aircraftman Raymond Victor Aldridge (Service No:125862) initially enlisted in the Army on 29 November 1939 as a Private with 2/7 Infantry Battalion. Discharged on 16 February 1940, he enlisted in the RAAF on 7 January 1943 and was attached to Laverton Departure and Reception Centre when he was Discharged on 26 August 1947.

Born in 1919 in Nottinghamshire England, Ray was the second of eleven children of Richard Arthur Aldridge (b1879 in Suddex, ENgland) and Annie Cope (b1895 in Nottinghamshire, England). Richard had worked as an Engine Cleaner before enlisting in the Merchant Navy - he was serving on board the Borutu in 1910. He and Annie (a Silk Patternmaker in a Lace Factory) married in 1911 in Nottinghamshire. Annie was in Sussex in 1914 when Richard - a Cook - enlisted in the AIF in Sydney NSW. Richard was Discharged in London and by 1920 Richard, Annie and their family were living in Melbourne, Victoria where Richard was a Chauffeur, and then Wangaratta where Richard was a Chef.

Ray worked as a Baker in Tallangatta before enlisting for WWII. He then worked as a Labourer at Tallangatta before settling in Melbourne where he worked as a Labourer. Ray died in 1974.
