Archibald was captured by Germans at Corinth in Greece, and was initially imprisoned there before being transferred and moved between POW camps in Austria.
He was reported missing in Greece on 2 June 1941 and confirmed as a POW on 26 June 1941. He was "recovered" in April 1945 and arrived in England on 23 May 1945; and disembarked in Australia on 8 August 1945.
