104 years ago today, on the 23rd August 1918, Private Edward August Roberts, 1st Battalion (Reg No-3733A), porter from Ingall Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, Died of Wounds, age 18 years 11 months.

No Roll of Honour circular submitted.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 26th August 1899 to Paul John (died 7.3.1910) of 8 Reid Street, Newcastle, N.S.W., and Mary Roberts (died 7.3.1911 - no funeral or death notice located), Edward enlisted August 1917 with the 55th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 4.2.1918 (measles), 17.6.1918 (influenza).

Wounded in action - 23.8.1918 (not specified).

Edward is resting at Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. Plot II Row A Grave 12.

Mr. Robert’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor, Book of Gold (photos, 1000 names inscribed of the Fallen, unveiled date unknown, located at Christ Church Cathedral, 52 Church Street, Newcastle N.S.W.) and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Edward has been memorialised at his parent’s gravesite. ANGLICAN 1-23. 64.
