A letter from John’s mother dated 4/11/1919 (Doc21) addressed to  Base Records seeking the provision of train tickets to enable his mother, Esther and his sister to travel to Melbourne from Geelong to welcome John home.  John’s father is shown as deceased on his initial Enlistment Form.  The response dated 7/11/1919 (Doc# 20) stated that Esther had to purchase her own tickets, then to keep the return half of her tickets, then with a completed form duly filled in, to apply for a refund.

His brother Alister Colin Muir Campbell also served for 4 years in WW1.

John studied at the University of Perth, where he graduated BA, while there he taught at Perth High School.  He was Head of the Geelong Preparatory School from 1928-1930, then Housemaster of Warrinn House from 1939 until 1963, as well as a teacher of History and Economics, and he had a large involvement with the School Cadets.
