ROBERT POTTER, brother of Frank Hales Potter, was born at Bairnsdale, Victoria, on 28th February, 1895, and educated at the College in that town. He entered the service of the Bank on 4th February, 1913, at the Flinders Street West Branch, Melbourne. In August, 1914, he was transferred to Albury, New South Wales, and in the following month to Wodonga, Victoria.
Robert Potter enlisted on 14th December, 1914, and left Australia as a member of the 6th Battalion of the A.I.F. He served on Gallipoli from the beginning of May, 1915, until the evacuation, and in Egypt until the following March. He was promoted to corporal in May, 1916, while serving in France, where he had arrived the previous month. He saw a good deal of service in France, and was promoted to sergeant in August, 1918; to second-lieutenant in September; and to lieutenant in December, 1918. He was eventually discharged on 14th July, 1919.
