Herbert was the youngest of two children of William Henry Reilly (b abt 1855) and Sarah Ann Isabella Parker (b1865 in Bendigo, Victoria). William and Sarah married in 1886 in Bendigo, Victoria and were living in Port Melbourne by 1900 when Herbert was born. William was a Railways Employee.
In the Census Records of the 1920s, Herbert was living in Melbourne and listed his occupation as 'Expert'. In 1934 in Melbourne, Herbert married Vera Rose Mayman (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Vera was a Milliner. Herbert and Vera settled in Melbourne, and Herbert was a Director in 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF(Lieutenant; Service No:V143756). Herbert was Discharged in September 1943. Three Brothers-in-Law served in WWI - Edward Mayman (Service No:227), Joseph Mayman (Service No:2524) and James Russel Mayman (Service No:31).
Herbert and Vera remained in Melbourne, where Herbert was a Director. He died in 1959 and Vera died in 1988.
