Signalman William Irvine Kerr (Service Nos:V73096/VX89188) initially enlisted in the ACMF for PTD (18 April 1940 - 14 December 1941) and FTD (15 December 1941 - 21 July 1942), and was attached to 3rd Australian Corps Signals when he enlisted in the AIF on 22 July 1942 - graded as Driver Mechanic. Signalman Kerr was attached to Signals 3 Corps at Dischage on 6 August 1945.
Bill was born St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria in 1919, third child of William Malcolm Kerr (b1888 in Bairnsdale, Victoria) - and eldest child of William's second wife - Dorothy Frences Sheppard (b1897 in Coburg, Victoria). William (a Baker) was a Widower with two young sons in 1917 when he and Dorothy married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and William worked as a Baker.
Bill worked as a Driver Mechanic in Melbourne before he enlisted in the Army, and in 1942 in Melbourne married Lillian Jean Clover (b1923 in Warragul, Victoria) - Lillian was working in Melbourne as a Machinist. Following his Discharge in 1945, Bill and Lillian settled in Melbourne where Bill worked with his father as a Baker and Lillian worked as a Machinist. Bill and Lillian divorced in the late 1950s and both remarried - Bill in the early 1960s to Juliana (b1925). Bill was a Storeman and Juliana a Storelady when they married in Melbourne, where they settled. Bill died in 1989 and Juliana in 2002.
