Signalman Geoffrey Arthur Franklin (Service No:VX41917) enlisted in the AIF on 27 June 1940 and was attached to 2/24 Training Battalion - graded Fitter. Signalman Franklin was attached to HQ Signals AIF (ME) on 12 September 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for the Middle East, returning to Melbourne on 8 April 1943. Signalman Franklin completed three Tours in New Guinea with 19 LoC Signals (6 December 1943 - 22 July 1944; 20 September 1944 - 24 February 1945; and 14 June 1945 - 1 September 1945), and was attached to REIN SIGS at Discharge on 9 October 1945.

Born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1912, Geoff was the son of Henry (Harry) Muir Franklin (b1883 in Queenscliff, Victoria) and Maude Longhurst (b1881 in Ballarat, Victoria). Harry (a Plumber) amd Maude (a Barmaid) married in 1910 in Geelong, Victoria and settled in   Melbourne, where Harry worked as a Plumber. During the Depression years, Harry and Maude lived in Ballarat, returning to Melbourne in the late 1930s.

Geoff worked in Maffra and Straford as a Farm Labourer, and in 1940 in Straford, married Emily Nellthorp-Quibell (b1922 in Bruthen, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the Army, Geoff and Emily lived in Sale, where Geoff worked as a Labourer. Emily died in 1970 and Geoff in 1978.
