Private George Monk (Service No:W52928) enlisted in the ACMF on 24 July 1942 and was attached to 23rd Coy AASC. Private Monk served with 4th Division AASC, 127 and 159 Australian Genral Transport Coys in New Guinea (Buna; 9 August 1943 to 19 July 1944) and was Discharged on 12 February 1945.

Goerge was born in Clavering, Essex in England in 1900, eighth of nine children of William Daniel Monk (b1856 in Arkesden, Essex) and Sarah Law (b1861 in Clavering, Essex). William (a Farm Labourer) and Sarah married in 1884 in Saffron Walden, Essex and settled at Claviering in Essex where they raised their family and William was a Farm/Agricultural Labourer and Farm Horseman.

George was a Farm Labourer in Clavering when he enlisted in the British Army in WWI (Private; Regimental No:81382) and was Discharged suffering chronic rheumatism. In 1921 George immigrated, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Omar and joining his brother Edward and sister-in-law in Latham, Kalgoorlie wher he worked as a Farmer until the late 1930s. George was working as a Miner and Engine Driver at Mt Magnet via Kalgoorlie when he enlisted in the ACMF. Following his Discharge, George settled in Perth, WA where he worked as a Labourer and Fitter's Assistant. In 1960 in Perth WA, George married Mary Cora Thompson (nee Cornish; b1899 in Lancashire, England) - Mary was a Widow, and had immigrated with her mother and sister in 1913, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Demosthenes. Mary worked as a Machinist in Perth. George and Mary settled in Perth, where George died in 1982 and Mary in 1996.
