Malcolm Hilliard McDOUGALL was born in Sunbury. His father, Robert James McDougall worked at the Sunbury Asylum, and later at the Kew Asylum.
Malcolm was 23 yo when he joined the AIF on 22/10/1914. Because of prior military experience with the 38th Fortress Company he was appointed a Corporal on the day of enlistment.
He was assigned to the Light Horse Signals unit and left Australia aboard the HMAT Chilka on 2/2/1915.
He landed at Gallipoli on 16/5/1915 and stayed until evacuation on 18/12/1915.
He was appointed Sergeant 5/4/1916 and served with the 3rd Signals Troop, and later with the 5th Signal Troop. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieut on 16/2/1917 and later made up to Lieut. He was awarded an MID and later an MC for his excellent work.
He returned to Australia and relinquished his commission on 24/12/1919.
In 1921/22 he was living in Foster, Gippsland, and in 1967 was living in West Meadows, an outer northern suburb of Melbourne.
