Sapper Douglas Stewart Polley (Service No:V110640) served in the ACMF from 12 March 1941, and was attached to Engineer Base Workshops (EBW) on 9 December 1941 when he was transferred to Area 23A Reserve on 9 December 1941 (on the basis of personal hardship: NAA). Siblings Walter, James and Audrey also served in WWII.
Born in Geelong, Victoria in 1916, Doug was eighth of eleven children of Charles Baker Polley (b1875 in Connewarre via Geelong, Victoria) and Minnie Violet Milsom (b1880 in London, England) - Minnie immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1889, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Liguria. Charles (a Farmer) and Minnie married in 1907 in Geelong, and settled in Connewarre, where they raised their family and Charles was a Farmer.
Doug worked as a Farm Hand on his father's farm, becoming a Farmer in Connewarre in the 1940s. Doug died in Geelong in 2003.
