Leading Aircraftman Edward George Mills (Service No:148985) initially served in the Militia (Private; Service No:95601) with 22 Field Regiment (2 December 1937 - 9 July 1940). He then served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V370667) with 18 Battalion (Vic) VDC (9 March 1942 - 10 February 1943). On 3 May 1944 he enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technician. On 1 July 1945 he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman, attached to No 9 Transport and Movements Office (T and MO) - mustered as Trainee Flight Mechanic. LAC Mills was attached to 1 Stores Depot at Discharge on 7 March 1946.

Edward was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1913, eldest of five children of Edward Joseph Mills (b1882 in Longwood, Victoria) and Margaret Louisa Cooper (b1893 in Camperdown, Victoria). Edward Snr (a Storeman) and Margaret (a Tailoress) married in 1912 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family, and Edward Snr worked as a Storeman and Machinist.

Edward worked as a Motor Driver for Silver Top Taxi Service in Melbouurne in the 1930s, and was a Machinist (Toolmaker) in 1940 when he married Elsie (Lorna) Rae McQuinn (b1913 in Melbourne, Victoria). Before enlisting in the RAAF, Edward and Lorna were living in Bendigo, where Edward was a Machinist/Toolmaker for the Ordnance Factory. Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1946, Edward and Lorna returned to Melbourne, where they raised their son and Edward worked as an Engineer. Edward died in 1993 and Lorna in 1999.
