James Norman Goble was born in Adelaide on the 21st March 1898 to his parents James and Ester Rosina Goble (nee Napier). James was the oldest of six children in the family. He attended Parkside, Pulteney Street Public School and Pulteney Grammar School. He was employed in South Australia as a Clerk at the time of enlistment.
On the 19th May 1916 aged 18 years, Goble enlisted in Adelaide, and set off on the 19th of June 1916. He embarked 21st September 1916 aboard the 'Commonwealth' from Adelaide destined for Plymouth.
Goble returned to Australia and served again in WW2 enlisting in 1939.
He died at 69 years old on the 11 of June 1967 at Kensington Park, South australia.
