Private Roy John Kelly (Service No:W85951) served in the ACMF with 14th Battalion (WA) VDC from 30 June 1942 to 15 October 1945.
The second of twelve children, Roy was born in Greenbushes WA in 1913 to Oswin (Oss) John Kelly (b1893 in Warragul, Victoria) and Amy (Nita) Juanita Lawrence (b1892 in Bunbury, WA). By 1898 Oss was living in Donnybrook, WA with his parents and siblings and was a Labourer in Greenbushes, WA in 1910 when he and Nita married. Oss and Nita lived in Greenbushes where Oss was a Teamster with the Timber Corporation before moving to Manjimup, Jardee and Blackwood. In the mid 1920s the family settled in Pemberton, where Oss was a Fitter's Labourer. Oss was accidentally killed in the Pemberton bush in 1934.
Roy worked as a Locomotive Fireman in Pemberton and in 1935 married Mavis Adelaide McLeod (b1916 in Greenbushes, WA). Roy and Mavis settled in Pemberton where they raised their family and Roy worked as an Engine Fireman and Locomotive Driver. Roy was a keen singer, and performed at his siblings' weddings and other local events. Mavis died in 1998 and Roy in 2006.
