William was the eldest of three children of John (Jack) Josiah Ecclestone (b1879 in Boyanup, WA) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Molan (b1893 in Guildford, WA). Jack (a Farmer) and Lizzie married in 1920 following Jack's return from WWI (Private; Service No:6503). He served as a Private (Service No:WX14425) with 35th Infantry Training Battalion, 2/28 Battalion and 2/4 Machine Gun Battalion. He was attached to 2/32 Battalion when he was Discharged in October 1942.
