Corporal Mary Alice Quill (Service No:WF96184) served in the AWAS (Trade Group - Wireless Operator) from 27 January 1942 to 15 January 1946. Corporal Quill was based on Rottnest Island in 1943, and was attached to Western Australian AA & CA Signals at Discharge.
Mary was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1922, eldest child of Daniel (Dan) Patrick Quill (b1892 in Mooroopna, Victoria) and Victoria (Queenie) Symonds (b1900 in Albany, Western Australia). Dan was a Farmer in Darkan before serving in the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:4520). Dan and Queenie married in Perth in 1921, and lived in Darkan and Duranillin where they raised their family and Dan was a Farmer.
Mary was a Dressmaker in Darkan when she enlisted in the AWAS in 1942, and in 1947 in Collie married James (Jim) Laurence O'Sullivan (b1920 in Bunbury, Western Australia) - Jim was a Private (Service No:WX18755). Mary and Jim settled in Manjimup, where Jim was a Storeman before moving to Perth in the late 1950s. Jim was a Police Constable in Perth until the late 1960s, when he and Mary moved to Manning. Jim died in 2000 and Mary in 2022.
