Herbert Spurr's suffered mortal shrapnel wounds and died the same day on the 15 May 1918 in the 61st Casualty Clearing Station. Although living in Parramatta when he enlisted his mother called Walbundrie NSW as his place of association. They had probably left the area as Herbert's father had died in 1917. Herbert's brother Harold Spurr also enlisted and was severely wounded in the leg. He was returned to Australia in early 1918 and had was soon to learn of his brother's death.
