Unstated his aged when he enlisted. His true aged was 16 years and three months. On 20 December 1918 he signed a Statutory Declaration admitting his true age
On 13 May 1918 while serving with the 2nd Cyclist Battalion he signed a Statutory Declaration that he had enlisted under the name of Roy Simmons and that his true name was in fact Samuel Royston George Rainsbury
