Unstated his aged when he enlisted. His true aged was 16 years and three months. On 20 December 1918 he signed a Statutory Declaration admitting his true age

On 13 May 1918 while serving with the 2nd Cyclist Battalion he signed a Statutory Declaration that he had enlisted under the name of Roy Simmons and that his true name was in fact Samuel Royston George Rainsbury

Son of Samuel Rainsbury and Edith Alice Rainsbury nee Simmons of 'Royston', Foster Street, Williamstown, Victoria.
