Eric was the fourth of seven children of Alfred Clarence Prior (b1885 in Albany WA) and Alice Marion Pimm (b1889 in Melbourne, Victoria). Alfred (a Labourer) and Alice married in 1915 in Midland Junction WA. Alice had arrived in Albany WA with her parents and siblings in 1897 on board the Innamincka. The couple settled in Albany WA where Alfred worked as a Wool Merchant before moving his family to Perth, WA where he was a Carrier.
In 1939 Eric was a Warhouse Assistant in Perth WA when he enlisted in the ACMF for the first time and was transferred as Medically Unfit on 22 June 1941. On 1 July 1942 he was a Carrier (William Adams & Co) when he re-enlisted (Signaller; Service No:W6086) - however his employer wrote advising that the company was 'a Protected Undertaking under the National Security (Man Power) Regulations' (National Archives Australia) and that Eric was exempt from military call up. Brothers Robert and Milton served in WWII.
In 1942 Eric married Hilda May Caporn (b1923 in Perth, WA). Eric and Hilda settled in Perth WA where Eric worked as a Storeman - they were both slightly injured in 1951 when a car in which they were travelling was involved in and accident. Eric died in 2002 and Hilda in 2014.
