Biography contributed by Barker Gary

Ken George in the 1930s joined the Citizen Military Forces (CMF), firstly in 1931 where he increased his age by exactly two years because he was underage.  He took discharge in 1932 when he moved from Scottsdale to Launceston. While there he joined another CMF mounted unit, but used his correct date of birth. It should be noted that there was no conscription in the 1930s so Ken was truly a volunteer.

With his WW2 Service he was allocated to Armoured Corps but was injured in a Carrier accident when they were deploying from Puckapunyal (Victoria) to Darwin by road. This led to Ken's discharge for medical reasons. Unfortunately, due to the dire situation that Australia faced during 1941/42 there are very few details in his Army file.

After WW2, Ken was allocated a Soldier Settlement farm on King Island where his descendants still reside. Two of his grandsons have service in the Australian Defence Force.
