Staff Sergeant Edward Alfred Nelson (Service No:WX15192) initially served with the ACMF (Private; Service No:W38253) with 13th Training Battalion from 13 May 1941 to 20 July 1941. He then enlisted in the AIF on 22 July 1941 as a Private attached to 10 Armoured Regiment. Staff Sergeant Nelson was attached to District Accounts Office (DAO) WA when he was Discharged on 26 July 1946.

Edward, the eighth of twelve children was born at Lennonville in Mt Magnet Shire WA in 1902. His parents, Alfred (Alf) Nelson (b1864 in Roxburghshire, Scotland) and Amy Kate Stoyel (b1871 in Devon, England) married in 1890 in Brisbane, QLD. Alf, a Coach Body Maker in Scotland, arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1883 and Amy immigrated in 1889, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Merkara. Alf worked as a Coach Builder in Brisbane before he and Amy moved to Victoria in 1892 - living in Melbourne and at the EL Dorado Gold Mines. In 1895 they moved their family to Western Australia, living initially at Midland Junction where Alf was a Coach Builder. The family later settled in Leederville, Perth WA and Alf travelled to the country where he worked as a Carpenter before settling in Perth with his family.

Edward was a Clerk in Perth in 1926 when he married Florence Alicia Moss (b1898 in Perth, WA) - Florence was a Typist. By the 1930s Edward and Florence were settled in Geraldton WA where Edward worked as a Clerk and a Storeman. Edward died in 1956 and Florence in 1964.
